Bremer Bay’s Natural Attractions
Bremer Bay, a jewel of the Great Southern Treasures, offers unparalleled natural wonders. Offshore, the deep waters of Bremer Canyon host a thriving marine ecosystem where killer whales can be spotted throughout the summer. Along its stunning coastline, pristine beaches like Blossoms Beach and Little Boat Harbour beckon for quiet reflection or adventure. Just beyond, the Fitzgerald River National Park blooms year-round with vibrant wildflowers and offers breathtaking views, with whales frequenting Point Ann from July to October.
Graceful Giants
Orcas – AKA killer whales – aren’t something you get to see every day, much less a sight you’d expect to see off the coast of Western Australia. But, in the Bremer Canyon, a deep-sea cleft some 65 kilometres southeast of Bremer Bay, hundreds of the apex predators congregate annually. Though they are the second most widely distributed mammal on the planet after humans, spotting them in their natural habitat is much rarer than seeing a humpback whale or bottlenose dolphin. From December to April, an estimated 200 orcas make their way to the canyon and the wider 11,500 km² marine park, living in pods of six to 20..
Ocean Adventures
Bremer Bay’s waters are a paradise for snorkelers and divers alike, with temperate conditions that support a vibrant underwater ecosystem. Dive enthusiasts can explore the popular dive trail at Little Boat Harbour, where you might encounter stingrays, neon slugs, striped fish, seadragons, and more. Across various dive sites, you’ll find an array of temperate water species, colourful nudibranchs, and thriving coral and sponge life. For snorkelers, Barrens Beach in Fitzgerald River National Park offers a sheltered spot to spot redlip morwongs, blue devils, and leafy seadragons. Anglers, too, have their pick of prime fishing spots at Reef Beach and Fosters Beach. Whether diving, snorkelling, or casting a line, Bremer Bay’s underwater world promises a rich adventure.
